Disruptions in air traffic at major European hubs, such as those in Germany, also have an impact on the wider network, including the airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The extended strike by pilots of Lufthansa, organized by the Vereinigung Cockpit, continues to cause flight cancellations and schedule adjustments, particularly at the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. As a result, there has been a reduction in the volume of traffic that would normally pass over Bosnia and Herzegovina or connect with these destinations.
According to operational estimates, daily traffic is expected to decrease by approximately 5% to 10%, depending on the intensity of the strike and airlines’ operational adjustments.
At Sarajevo International Airport, occasional flight cancellations or schedule changes are possible, along with reduced availability of connecting flights. However, these are limited disruptions and do not affect the overall functionality of the airport.
Part of the traffic is being rerouted via alternative routes or handled by other airlines, thereby mitigating the overall impact on the network. Therefore, no significant disruptions to the functioning of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s airspace are expected.
In coordination with EUROCONTROL and the Network Manager, BHANSA continues to ensure the safe, stable and efficient provision of air traffic management services, while closely monitoring the situation.
